World Book and Copyright Day : Let's Celebrate

World Book and Copyright Day is a celebration to promote the enjoyment of books and reading. Each year, on 23 April, celebrations take place all over the world to recognize the scope of books - a link between the past and the future, a bridge between generations and across cultures. This day is also known as World Book Day.

The theme for World Book and Copyright Day 2022 is "Read, so you never feel low".

 History

UNESCO has selected 23rd April as World Book Day to pay tribute to great literary authors and writers including William Shakespeare, Miguel Cervantes, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega who died on this day. In 1995, this date was finalised by the UNESCO General Conference, held in Paris, to pay tribute and honour authors and books worldwide.

Whose birthday is celebrated as world book day?

April 23, 1995, was decided by UNESCO as it was also the death and birth anniversary of William Shakespeare, a world-famous author.
